Three Vibes

Three Vibes is a three movement improvisation that I improvised back to back. I just felt like a second movement coming and I went there. The complete three movements is perfect illustration of how I thematically improvise. I like to make new music in real time using all of what is in my brain. :)

"The Echo" is a great representation of my "pick a note" philosophy. I just pick a note. Then, pick another note. This is then building a theme. You can see how I repeat the sequence, like a game of simon, aging myself here... but after I get the random pattern... then it isn't really random anymore!

"Echoes" has many different sections using wet and dry and/or feathered dampening techniques. Watch that damper bar! I pick a little ostinato and at times I will hold that pedal down and let all notes ring out very intentionally. Then, I take that away to get back to the groove with the pattern based ostinato... pattern. ;)

"The Echo, Echoed" is a great representation of trying to remember what shapes you did at the beginning or in this case, the first movement, in order to create a cohesive improvisation. I just played a shape in the first movement and when I got to this moment in time... it felt really natural to repeat that theme. Even tho there were some flats. ohhhhhhh! haha, anyways, this is the third and final movement of my thematic improvisation or comprovisation: "Three Vibes."
